My name is Gabrielle Elise Jimenez and I am a Hospice Nurse. At the age of 40-ish I changed my whole life and went back to school. Looking back I feel proud, accomplished and amazed at the journey I have taken. Remembering back though I see panic, fear, exhaustion and complete self doubt. But I did it… despite the obstacles.
I have written a book called Soft Landing, which you can find on Amazon. It starts out telling you my story; how I became a Hospice Nurse, and then I invite you to hear the stories of the people I have met and worked with and provided comfort and support for. I share patient stories, but I also share with you the lessons I have learned about life through death.
I jokingly think of myself as “the Hospice Santa”, which I know sounds weird, but that is how I feel. I have been taught by some amazing hospice care providers; doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, caregivers and volunteers. I have been given the most wonderful tools that help me to… as I like to say… provide a soft landing. I want to share them with each of you… I want to dig into my wonderful bag of love and give those gifts to you. I want to help you become a better care provider whether it is as a profession, or for someone you love who is nearing the end of their life.
My goal with this blog is to share my tips and tools, some inspiration, patient stories, life stories and most importantly help to remove that dark cloud that hovers over death. I want you to see what I see, which is love on so many levels, faith that will inspire you, and a death… which can be incredibly beautiful. I want to help you to provide a soft landing for the next person you will be present at the bedside for. xo
